Caravan Storage Information
Please find below Piran Caravan Storage's checklist of things to consider prior to storing your caravan or motorhome. (Click here for a handy PDF version to print out and keep in your caravan)
- Turn off and disconnect any gas cylinders
- Empty the cassette toilet and clean thoroughly
- Leave the toilet waste tank shutter partially open to prevent it sticking shut over the storage period
- Drain all water from the system where possible, leaving the drain plug open and the taps in mid position (NB: some Truma heating tanks cannot be drained and there are some manufacturers that recommend that you do not drain the boiler)
- Check fixed ventilation apertures are not obstructed
- Ensure that the blown air system is turned off
- Even though the caravan is in storage it is important that it is not overloaded and that the contents of the caravan are distributed properly
- Pull the curtains (to stop the sun from fading the upholstery). It is best to leave the blinds rolled away as if left out for an extended period of time the spring in the cassette may stretch. (This also applies to the roof light blinds)
- If there is no tracker fitted within the caravan, disconnect the leisure battery. Store the battery in a dry, frost free place and periodically charge it
- Do not put vermin bait, traps or poison inside your caravan, as this will only attract vermin into your van. Piran Caravan Storage takes every possible precaution against unwanted vermin
- Remove all non-tinned foods, including cereals and dried foods which may attract vermin
- Empty the fridge and wedge the fridge door ajar
- Positioning moisture traps in the wash room and main living area will help to reduce condensation and damp
- Where possible remove bedding, linen and clothes which may be affected if the caravan becomes damp. Place seats and back cushions on end in the centre aisle to reduce mould and mustiness
- Lubricate the locking components of the hitch locks and wheel clamps to avoid seizure during the storage period
- Ensure all doors, windows and roof lights are correctly fastened
- Piran Caravan Storage stores your caravan with the corner steadies down, chocks behind the wheels and with your hand brake off to reduce wear and tear on the braking system
- The hitch head must be checked to see that it is fully extended and that there is no load on the braking system when storing your van
- As our caravan storage is undercover, we recommend against using a caravan cover as condensation and mould may form on the caravan
- Remember to check your caravan for road worthiness when picking up your caravan or motorhome from storage (i.e. lights, tyre pressures and general condition, braking system etc...)
Remember that we can service and wash/valet your caravan or motorhome whilst in storage.
